RYDM

Rail yard fuel control

Gallons on the pad, tied to the locomotive that took them.

RYDM monitors the tanks, meters, nozzles and AEI tag reads at locomotive fueling facilities, using the controls and equipment already in the yard. Installed and field-serviced by CWI Railroad System Specialists.

Numbered stages: 1 receive, 2 store, 3 dispense, 4 identify, 5 protect, 6 report. Illustrative layout, not a real yard.

RYDM is in service at locomotive fueling facilities on the Amtrak, CSX, Norfolk Southern and Belt Railway of Chicago networks.

  • Amtrak
  • CSX
  • Norfolk Southern
  • Belt Railway of Chicago

Built for Class I, passenger and terminal railroads.

On the pad

What RYDM watches, in the order fuel moves.

Delivery, tank, bay, locomotive, report: one record your fuel and accounting teams can both read.

  1. 01

    Receive

Truck and tank-car deliveries reconciled to the bill of lading; metered barge and pipeline delivery monitoring.

    More on receive
  2. 02

    Store

Fuel and DEF tank levels, plus inventory monitoring for lube oil, used oil and additives.

    More on store
  3. 03

    Dispense

Fuel-bay meters and nozzles, plus direct-to-locomotive (DTL) fueling from mobile trucks.

    More on dispense
  4. 04

    Identify

AEI tag reads tie each fueling to a locomotive and show how long units wait.

    More on identify
  5. 05

    Protect

Leak detection, derail status, faults and alarms, with email alerts to the people who act.

    More on protect
  6. 06

    Report

Event-level records, CSV exports and scheduled tank-report emails for operations and reconciliation.

    More on report

Works with your equipment

No rip-and-replace. RYDM reads what is already in the yard.

Fueling pads already have controllers, meters, nozzles, tank gauges and AEI readers. RYDM connects to them, so the data you need comes from the equipment you have paid for.

How RYDM connects to a yard
  • Reads Allen-Bradley PLCs over Modbus
  • Works with the meters, nozzles and tank gauges on the pad
  • Uses the AEI tags North American locomotives already carry
  • A small edge computer at each yard collects the data
  • Can post to your business systems, set up with each railroad

Field service

CWI Railroad System Specialists

Installed and field-serviced by CWI Railroad System Specialists.

Software is half of a fueling system. CWI surveys the yard, installs and calibrates the field equipment, and services it after go-live, so there is one team accountable in the field.

Questions

What fuel and mechanical teams ask us first.

Do we have to replace our nozzles, meters or tank gauges?

No. RYDM reads the controllers and instruments already on the pad. CWI surveys the yard first and tells you what, if anything, needs to be added.

How is a fueling matched to a locomotive?

By the AEI tag the locomotive already carries. A reader at the fueling position identifies the unit, and RYDM ties the fueling to it.

Can RYDM send data to our business systems?

Yes. RYDM can post fuel transactions to a railroad’s business systems and exchange files with its partners. Each integration is set up with the railroad.

Who installs it, and who do we call afterwards?

CWI Railroad System Specialists installs RYDM, calibrates the field equipment and services it after go-live.

Who can see our data?

Each railroad’s people see their own railroad’s data. Access is set up for each railroad.

How is RYDM priced?

It depends on the facilities and the equipment already there. Request a walkthrough and we will quote after a survey of the yard.
